Roanoke Speakeasy: Downtown Charm near Greenways

If you are looking for a spot that both matches it's description and is close to downtown life, Hunter's place is it! Great time thanks Hunter!

Hunter was an excellent host and the house is huge!

There was a mistake in the check-in dates that was totally our fault, but Hunter took care of things and check-in was very easy. House is very roomy and comfortable with great amenities. As others have mentioned this is a not a place with a quiet tranquil garden... it is downtown and urban which is what we wanted. Highly recommended!

We loved this place! Came with my bridesmaids to get ready for my wedding and hunter was exceptionally helpful with anything we needed.

Very much enjoyed the host’s and their communication through reserving and staying at the location. The house itself is really nice especially for it being an older home (which we enjoy). Roanoke the city is very interesting but too touristy, at least during our stay, and also very much enjoyed that aspect too. Still fun and interactive things to do. Usually I’m picky with my ratings, but this is definitely in the 5 star category!

Great house with 2 reserved parking spots next to the house. I was in Roanoke for a cycling event. The house was perfect for what we needed. Good space, great place to do computer work in the office room too!

Great old home with good updates. Care has obviously been taken with the decor and amenities. Loved walking past Black Dog Salvage to the Greenway or over the bridge to the great breakfast place Scratch Biscuit. So fun to enjoy with our dogs.l Also had fun at Mill Mt. and the Taub Art Museum.

Hunter was a good and responsive communicator. The property included an expansive selection of books, games, coffee, snacks, condiments, and real plants—all of which were nice and appreciated touches.

Hunter was the BEST host I’ve ever had! Amazingly responsive and helpful!! The speak easy is really fun and the house is located less than 1/2 mile walk to the Greenway trail system, just past Black Dog Salvage-definitely a stop worth making. Also down the street about a quarter mile is an authentic Mexican restaurant with the best green chili enchiladas! The house is well stocked and very comfortable. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the house is located on a busy street surrounded by a parking lot. I love a good cocktail on a big front porch-which I had, just wasn’t as private as I like. That said, the house itself is quite lovely and I’d recommend it to others.

The house had everything we needed for our stay and was well decorated. Host was communicative and helpful as well. Definitely would stay here again and recommend to others.

Very good communication with the host and a very pleasant stay. The speakeasy was a fun twist. The house is nice and in a convenient location. It is, however, surrounded by a parking lot and on a noisy street. If you are out and about it is not a problem, but don't expect a nice garden to relax in.

The house was very clean and well located to town, hikes, and everything Roanoke has to offer!! Host communicated clearly and extremely responsive. This was a great place for our family to stay!

This property was great - easy access to everything, great amenities, and very comfortable. I highly recommend this home as it was easy to access and was perfect for our week long stay.

Great place to stay if you are visiting Roanoke! You have two dedicated parking spaces and it is a straight 5 min drive down Campbell Ave to downtown where you will find great museums and top notch restaurants. Don’t miss the Food & Historic tour. The house is a cute craftsman style which has been renovated and is modern. We really appreciated the following features: tons of hooks everywhere to hang all your gear, kitchen was stocked with snacks and fresh fruit and TV had channels which guests could use. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area. Oh, and our pooch loved it too!

Stephen, We cannot thank you enough for the incredible stay we had in your Airbnb over the holidays. We felt so at home there and were able to prepare the holiday meal for my, now fiancée’s, family. The meal went off without a hitch. Also, we were able to enjoy the fireplace/stove and the coziness of the beautiful four square architecture. We should let you know we may have to make an annual visit because we got engaged on the sofa. 💍 We will always have special memories! Five stars for sure.

Our stay at the Roanoke Speakeasy was overall good. The house was clean and offered all the amenities that we needed. If it weren’t for a few negative items, I would absolutely give this stay five stars: The location leaves much to be desired (located in a large church parking lot across from a used car lot) which you won’t know until after booking, the queen bed sags and is not very comfortable, and the central air system is extremely load (enough to wake you up multiple times per night or drown out any music/TV you have on). Otherwise, we were happy with the central location, cleanliness, and furnishings.

The home is very nice inside with comfortable beds and has all the items you would need for a stay there. The home is (6 mins drive) to the town of Roanoke for restaurants and bars. The surrounding Appalachian trails were all within 1 hours drive which are plentiful and all are very beautiful. I would suggest that you do not use the shower when the washer is running as the pressure drops and can be a problem. The location of the home is on a main road with a traffic light stop very close by - this causes noise both during the day and also at night. The drinks cabinet was locked with no access if you did want to indulge in one. Overall, the home was ok but the description on page 2 in the listing regarding "Capture the beauty of the surrounding landscape from the outside view of the house, where nature's splendor provides a picturesque backdrop" does not reflect the location accurately as this home is on a main road with the associated noise and air pollution.

Very beautiful home. We enjoyed our stay! Hunter was responsive and the home was welcoming and cozy. Walking distance to the park for kids and the downtown area has lots to do and see. Location was absolutely perfect for us. Thank you again.

We really enjoyed our stay here, and Hunter was an extremely helpful and responsive host. The house is very comfortable — just as in the photos — and there is a dedicated parking spot in the lot next door. The house is on a street with a steady hum of traffic, but noise was never a problem. The Greenway and plenty of restaurants/retail are within walking distance, and even the more adventurous types could make it to downtown on foot in 30-40 minutes. Great spot, would happily stay here again.

We had a great stay. The space was very comfortable for my family of three adults and a little dog. We felt comfotable and safe in the neighborhood, which was very walkable. The nearby park was beautiful and walking to the downtown section of Roanoke was easy to do. We had great meals at four of the local restuarants. Visitors should be sure to visit the historic Fishburn Mansion, which is a short walk down the road from the house.

This location is perfectly nestled into Roanoke, we didn’t have to drive more than 10 minutes to get to fun things to do and amazing restaurants. The house is cozy and private. All of my friends raved that I chose the perfect location. 10/10 trip.

The house was perfect for us and just as described. Hosts were super communicative. Clean and neat, well stocked. My only recommendation is to install black out curtains or shades in bathroom. Street lights make the rooms pretty bright at night, and both bedrooms front the street. Neighbors warned us to keep our cars locked and all items out of sight. We did, and had no trouble. We would definitely stay here again.

Perfect house for a sisters trip. Comfy, clean, and convenient to groceries, restaurants, downtown shopping , parks, etc. It lacked a view and outdoor space, but the location and indoor space worked well for 3 adults. Hunter's communications were helpful and proactive. He was quick to respond to the one request we had during our 4-night stay. We will book this property again the next time we plan a trip to Roanoke.

Large clean house with big rooms and lots of space. House recently redone (flipped) and has neat character though some old house quirks. Super responsive host during our stay when called for plumbing issue that was quickly resolved. We were disappointed that there was not much to walk to from the house and put off by being on a large parking lot with a car lot across the street.

The house was a good space for our family. It was a nice mix of old character and modern renovations. The beds were very comfy, and the shower was great. They had nice touches like providing coffee and snacks, as well as plenty of soaps/toiletries.

While this was a nice house, it was not what I expected in terms of road noise, or safety. It was near a busy road with an adjacent corner store. I had smaller children in tow, and there was no yard space for them to run around, just a huge parking lot. I did not feel safe at this location. I ended up reaching out to the owners. They were cordial and understanding, however, I was still required to pay for the cost of this in addition to the new place I had to reserve at 11 pm! This was not fair. I'm sure I'm not the only one to have this problem, although this is probably why they say your money is non-refundable. When I reached out to airbnb support, they did absolutely nothing to back me as the customer. I do believe the owners should have been more upfront with their listing. So, if you have a group of friends, plan a girlfriends weekend or something, fine this is a good place but families...a no go. At least not for me and definitely not after a 12 plus hour drive.

I have been to so many different places, this place was beyond my expectations, everything was amazing he is such a generous and caring host, I will definitely book his place again! Thank you for making our stay so special and comfortable!

It was perfect for what we needed!

The house was beautiful. Very clean and tidy! So much was provided for us. And the communication was wonderful. We didn’t LOVE the street it was on BUT we would go back again in a heart beat. Only 5 minutes from great restaurants, coffee places and the children’s museum. Again the house was so great!

Super cute, older house with upgraded furnishing, appliances and HVAC, with plenty of space to stretch out. The kitchen has basic cookware to make small meals while staying and the have plenty of supplies to do laundry if you are planning a long stay. The location is a short drive from everything you could need. The neighborhood is mostly quiet and well lite at night. All bedrooms are upstairs and there is a street light right out side the window. Would recommend a heavier weight or black out curtains to help darken the room at night to sleep. Stephen was very accommodating and responsive to all of my questions and request for a fan as there are no fans upstairs to circulate the air.

When we arrived, everything was exactly as what was described. A lot of amenities included as far as supplies. They even had a new grill there for us to use during our stay. We have linens, beautiful bedrooms and layout. Loved the hardwood floors and look of the place. It was easy to get to and convenient for my month long stay for work. The host was so responsive and even came to salt and clear the walkways/porch during our stay with inclement weather. I would highly recommend using them again for an extended stay.

Great place for a family visit to the Star City!

Super cute, older house with upgraded furnishing, appliances and HVAC, with plenty of space to stretch out. Within a mile or 3 of everything you could need. Neighborhood is mostly quiet but it is street front in a city so there is some traffic but not so much that it interrupts a good night’s sleep on the very comfy beds. Technically not mobility-impaired friendly as it has steps to entry and all bedrooms and the shower are upstairs, but if that is not a need, this is a great location and affordable accommodation for a visit to Roanoke! Would stay again if in the area!

The house was immaculate, beautifully decorated, well furnished and roomy.....plus it has a wonderful historic character with modern upgrades. The hosts provided so many thoughtful guest amenities...way more than I have experienced through traditional vacation rentals. The hosts were easy to contact and very responsive. I loved hosting my family there for our Thanksgiving/Christmas holiday get together.

Great stay, exactly how it was advertised. Beds were comfy, kitchen was nice and open and the living room was a great hangout spot. Overall can’t complain about anything!

Had a great weekend stay at Hunters place. Our family if 4 had plenty if space and the house was fully stocked with everything you would need! We loved the house, it was beautiful and the kids LOVED that there were some snacks! Beds were comfortable, space was clean and homey. We really enjoyed our stay. We will definitely stay again!

We loved staying at Hunter's place. There was plenty of space for 4 adults and 2 kids. The house was close to the activities we had planned. (Zoo, Transportation Museum) We thought the beds, couches, and linens were clean and comfortable. The kitchen was fully stocked. The hosts were quick to respond every time we had a question, and super helpful. We really appreciated all of the help they offered.

Newly remodeled, with new furnishings - including a comfy beds. Large, open spaces and modern kitchen. Host was so thoughtful with setup - snacks, coffee, shampoo, ... Loved our stay.

Hunter's place was clean, well stocked with kitchen items and electronic gear (chargers, big tv), and easily accessible by car to lots of venues. Most important, Hunter and Stephen were great hosts: super responsive. Example: this luddite did not know how to cast from my laptop to the tv. Stephen eagerly and immediately provided "tech support." Now that's a great host.
